E-LEARNING DAYS (Repeat):  If school is canceled because of inclement weather or any other reason.  Here is the procedure for E-Learning Days.

PARENT NOTIFICATION SYSTEM: (Repeat)

We will again be using our Parent Notification System to inform you of weather related late starts and other items of importance at Hills-Beaver Creek Schools.  As we get into that time of year, this system is reliable, however please keep an eye on other avenues as well, such as AM 800 or FM 101.5, and Sioux Falls television/websites: KELO, KDLT and KSFY.

  • December 9 - Midterm for Quarter 2

  • December 14 - Early Dismissal - 12:30 PM at the Secondary

  • December 15 - Secondary Conferences 3:45 - 7:30 PM (Details Below)

  • December 16 - Student Council Plaid-Out & Deck the Doors (Free Admission if wearing PLAID to Boys/Girls Varsity Games) - More Details to Come

  • December 23 - Early Dismissal - 12:30 PM at the Secondary

  • December 26-January 2 - No School 

  • January 3 - School Resumes

Midterm for Quarter 2 - Friday, December 9th - Reminder to check your students Midterm Progress Report (New)

On Friday, December 9th, it is Midterms for Quarter 2.   This is the halfway point for the Quarter.   The school will be sending paper copy progress reports for all students who are failing or have a ‘D’ grade.   Please continue to encourage your student(s) to always do their best, seek teacher support if they need help (before or after school) and complete all assignments.   Students may also have an option to retake tests if they check with the teacher.

December 15th - Parent/Teacher Conferences Secondary (Repeat) - Please mark your calendars for Parent/Teacher Conferences on Thursday, December 15th from 3:45 - 7:30 PM.  Conferences will look similar to Open House where parents/caregivers can come and meet with their students’ respected teachers during the 3.5 hour time block.  Teachers will be available to discuss students’ progress during this time.  Please be considerate of other parents/caregivers who may be in the room by patiently waiting outside of classroom until classroom is open.

Be Like E (Ethan) for the Month of November & December (Repeat)

Throughout November & December, HBC Secondary will start the ‘Be Like E - Ethan’ Month.   To honor our son, brother, friend, classmate, student, teammate - Ethan Erickson, we are going to be recognizing the characteristics/traits that Ethan did well. 

E- Empathetic - November 14 - 18

T - Thankful - November 21 - 23

H - Honest - November 28 - December 2

A - Accepting - December 5 - 9

N - Nice - December 12 - 16

All staff will be looking for students who are showing N-Nice for next week - December 12-16.  Students will receive a GREEN G.R.A.D. Ticket if they are caught showing Thankfulness.  At the end of the week, there will be a special drawing for those students who showed Thankfulness. E-T-H-A-N

Deficiency Lists for 2nd Quarter- (New)

As we emphasize the importance of academics and being well-rounded students, athletes and participants of co-curricular activities, please be reminded that we begin Quarter 2 DL on November 22nd.

The Deficiency List / Academic Eligibility is located in Section 9 of the Secondary Student Handbook (LINK).  

This slide explains the different levels of deficiencies.  Parents and students will receive an emailed letter notifying them if their student is on the deficiency list.  Please continue to support your student who may be struggling with completing school work.
