H-BC Families:

FFA Chili Cook Off & Silent Auction Tonight!  The H-BC FFA Chapter is hosting a Chili Cook Off & Silent Auction 4:30-7:00 pm at the Secondary School in Hills.   Proceeds will help with the trips to the State and National Conventions.  Come early to eat and stay for the Boys & Girls Basketball Games!

100 Days Wednesday, February 9 we celebrate 100 days of school!

      

Penny War:  The 2nd Grade classes have challenged the school to a Penny War!  The students are having fun with the challenge that will end on February 17.  Each student in the winning class gets 25 pride points  and the winning class gets to silly string Mr. Holthaus!  Game Plan 4 Hope will receive all the monies collected.

 

3-6 Grade Girls On The Run:  We are excited to have GOTR back at H-BC!   Please see the flyer attached to this newsletter.  Registration opens February 7th at 8:30 am! Visit www.EmBe.org/gotr   to register.    Additional information will be sent home next week. The program will run Monday & Wednesday, 3:30-4:15pm starting Monday, March 7, and ending Monday, May 16.   Thank you Mrs. Tollefson for leading the program!

Parent/Teacher Conferences:  Third quarter conferences will be held February 17th from 3:45-7:30 pm.  This conference is not mandatory for all students.  If your child’s teacher requests a conference please make time to meet with them.  In addition, if you wish to request a conference please let the teacher know.

Notes From The Nurse:  During hat and coat season, it’s a good idea to check your child for head lice weekly.

Black History Month The month of February we recognize all the contributions of black history leaders in our nation and in the world!

Also, we are having theme dress up days:
Friday, February 4- wear a clothing it with words on it to read
Friday, February 11- sports hero/sports team apparel 
Thursday, February 17- favorite character from a book 
Friday, February 25- pajama day

Valentines Day:  Our Valentine's Day parties will be Friday, January 11th.  Purchased, packaged treats and candies will be permitted.  Watch for notes from classroom teachers with specific class directions. Reminder: HBC Elementary is a nut aware school. See below. 

Pre-K - 2nd Grade Basketball Camp:  Camp continues Saturday,  February 5 & 12.  Pre-K & Kindergarten -12:00 pm to 12:50 pm, Grades 1 & 2 - 1:00 pm - 1:50 pm.   Note:  The Camp is  held at the Jr/Sr High School in Hills.    Participants are encouraged to wear their new jersey.

Early Childhood Family Education: ECFE classes will continue in February on Tuesday nights. ECFE is designed for families with children from birth to five. For more information contact Macy Ellingson at m.ellingson@isd671.net.

Reading Corps:  We welcome Kayla Kindt as our new Minnesota Reading Corps Tutor.   The goal of Reading Corps is to ensure that students become successful readers and achieve grade-level reading proficiency.    Parents will be contacted if your child is eligible for this beneficial program.

NUT AWARE SCHOOL: H-BC Elementary School is a peanut/tree nut allergy aware area.  There will be no classroom projects with peanut butter or peanut shells.  Please do not send any of these projects into the classroom with your child.  It is our hope that parents, who send a lunch from home for their child, CHOOSE NOT TO send foods containing peanut butter or nuts.
