All School Assembly - Cory Greenwood - Your Story Matters / Tackling Tough Subjects and Inspiring Healthy Conversations - Monday, October 11th (Repeat)

All 6th - 12th Grade Students participated in an all-school assembly on Monday, October 11th.  The assembly was about the following: 1. Find positive mentors 2. Engage in Healthy conversations with others about life 3. Being resilient through tough times (adversity) 4. Focus on solutions instead of problems 5. Appreciate others in their life 6. Make positive decisions

MCA III / NWEA-MAP Growth Reports Mailed Home Next Week (Repeat)!

HBC Secondary will be mailing your student(s)’ results home next week.   As you know, the students take standardized tests each year to check their progress and proficiency in various subject areas including Reading, Math and Science.   Here are the following assessments and purposes.

Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment (MCA III) - The Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments Series III (MCA- III's) are reading, mathematics, writing and science tests that help schools and districts measure student progress toward the state's academic standards.  The assessment will tell if a student is Does Not Proficiency, Partially Proficiency, Meets Proficiency or Exceeds Proficiency with grade-level standards.

NWEA/MAP Assessment - The NWEA (Northwest Evaluation Association)- is the educational non-profit organization responsible for the MAP assessment. MAP, which stands for Measures of Academic Progress, refers to tests given multiple times throughout a school year to measure your student's growth in a variety of subjects including reading and math.   The assessment will show the student(s)’ growth and percentile for reading and math versus national peers.

The following Grade Levels take the following assessments.

6th Grade - Reading MCA, Math MCA, Reading NWEA, Math NWEA

7th Grade - Reading MCA, Math MCA, Reading NWEA, Math NWEA

8th Grade - Reading MCA, Math MCA, Science MCA, Reading NWEA, Math NWEA

9th Grade - None

10th Grade - Reading MCA, Science MCA

11th Grade - Math MCA

12th Grade - None

Wanted: Substitute Teachers & Substitute Para-Professionals (Repeat)

H-BC is seeking qualified, professional Substitute Teachers & Paraprofessionals to join our team!  Substituting allows for a very flexible work schedule.  You choose the days you are interested in working.  Substitutes work on a daily/temporary basis as a replacement for a full time staff member.  A background check is submitted on all employees.

 

Substitute Teachers – $140 full day/$75 half day.  Individuals must hold a bachelor’s degree and a minnesota teachers license.  If no teachers license, a four-year degree and short-call license from the Minnesota Department of Education is required.  We’re happy to answer any questions you may have.

 

Paraprofessional Substitutes - Our substitute Paraprofessionals work in the classroom under a licensed teacher.  Responsibilities may include one-to-one student guidance or assisting with classroom, lunchroom, and recess duties.

Grades 1-6 Volleyball Camp Registration is complete.  Please Note: The Saturday Camp dates are October 23, October 30 and November 6th.   This is a change from the original schedule.

Deficiency Lists for 1st Quarter- (Repeat)

As we emphasize the importance of academics and being well-rounded students, athletes and participants of co-curricular activities, please be reminded that we began our deficiency lists starting for Quarter 1.

The Deficiency List / Academic Eligibility is located in Section 9 of the Secondary Student Handbook (LINK).  

This slide explains the different levels of deficiencies.  Parents and students will receive an emailed letter notifying them if their student is on the deficiency list.  Please continue to support your student who may be struggling with completing school work.

AM BUS CHANGES--For morning bus changes please call or text the bus line--make sure to identify your student and the bus number they are riding:  507-962-3240 Ext. 4.

MASKS ARE REQUIRED ON BUSSES (Repeat):  As you know, students need to wear a masks on the school bus.  We need your assistance.  Please have your child prepared with their mask in the AM and PM bus route.  The district’s supply of Masks is quickly dwindling.  Your cooperation is greatly appreciated!
