Patriot

Today is the last day of the 3rd Quarter.    Please make sure you are checking your student(s)’ JMC to look at their grades.  Each week, students take one advisory period (called Academic Check) to look at their grades and create a goal for the following week.   All parents can also look at their student(s)’ grades on JMC (JMC Parent LINK).  If you forgot your username or password, please call the Secondary School Office at 962-3240.

If your student does have a Failing Grade, they have until April 9th to raise their grade to passing.

Parent Schedule Survey Sent Friday, March 26th - Check email (New)

Parents, please check your email for an email about 21-22 Schedule Survey - Parents.  This survey will allow you to give your input for the 21-22 Secondary Schedule.   As you may know, the Secondary changed the schedule significantly this past year due to COVID.   There were some benefits to the new BLOCK schedule and some drawbacks.   We also added an advisory period this year to offset lunches.

Here is a short description of both Block / Traditional Schedules and Advisory.

The H-BC Secondary Schedule Task Force Team would love your input on our schedule for the 21-22 school year.  Due to COVID restrictions, the Secondary went to a Block Schedule (84 minute classes which met every other day - Red/Blue Day).  In a traditional schedule, students meet in 8 classes for 45 minutes.

Also during the past year, we also incorporated Advisory Time each day which allowed students to independently read for 10 minutes each day and the other 20 minutes were devoted to: Patriot Life (Goal Setting, Mental Health, Anti-Bullying Activities), G.R.A.D. Day (Community Building and School-wide positive expectations), FREE Choice Reading, Informational Text/Current Events Reading and also Weekly Academic Check (students check grades and create a weekly goal).

Obviously, there are pros/cons to both schedules and advisory times.  Please complete the following survey by Friday, April 2nd.  We would love your input for the schedule.  The survey should take less than 5 minutes.

Starting Monday, February 22nd, our Juniors will begin ACT prep - On to College in their advisory classes which will benefit them greatly if they take this prep time seriously.   Please encourage your Junior student to start preparing now by having their grades up, and making sure they use their advisory time wisely.  Students are encouraged to practice and prepare during advisory and at home to prepare for March 30th.

Junior students also signed up for their MyAct.org account.   Students can take practice ACT tests for each subject to prepare for the March 30th assessment.

HBC Prom Update for Juniors and Seniors (Repeat)

Juniors, Seniors and Parents,

Due to regulations set forth by the MDE and MDH, Hills - Beaver Creek Public Schools has decided not to host a HBC Prom 2021 this school year.  Our goal for this school year has always been to keep our students and staff safe, to keep our students learning in-person and create as much of a 'normal' educational experience as possible.  Due to the regulations, we do not feel we can accomplish our goals and host a prom for this school year.    If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call the secondary office.
