HBC Jr. High / Sr. High Bulletin

November 13, 2020

H-BC Secondary Families:

Week 10 is complete!  It’s hard to believe it is November and the snow is already here!  Please continue to practice social distancing during the weekend.   As numbers go up in Rock County, we need to do what we can to STAY IN SCHOOL to learn and to participate in co-curricular activities.

Next week is American Education Week and we will be celebrating public education and those people who serve to bring our students the BEST education possible.  Our teachers love their jobs and they love working with your students.  Thank you for your support from all of our staff!

Here are some pictures from the week at HBC Secondary.

HBC FFA has their first State Qualified Team! These five will be competing at the state convention in April in the Soils Career Development Event. They practiced hard and were able to grab a 5th place spot out of 9 teams.  Congratulations boys!

HBC honored our Veterans on Wednesday with a virtual Veterans Day Program.  Thank you to Ms. Oftedahl and our HBC Computer Publishing Class for directing and editing the program.  A BIG thank you to our Veterans.  Your service and sacrifice is appreciated!

Thursday Night was HBC Football Parent Night!  Thank you parents for your support of our student-athletes and the HBC Football Program.  The boys won a district championship for you!  Congratulations HBC Football!

Our students have been showing G.R.A.D. (Goal-orientated, Respect, Accountability and Determination) throughout the 2020-2021 school year.  Our students earned 800 G.R.A.D. certificates so far and have earned a HAT Day on Wednesday, November 18th.  Students earn G.R.A.D. certificates for going above and beyond at school for these traits.  Teachers will send them a virtual certificate via email and students’ names will be entered into weekly drawings.  Way to go Patriots!

COVID-19 Update - Do you send Your Student to School or Not? (Repeat)

As the school year is in full swing across the state, we are noticing that there is confusion about when students or staff members should stay home from school and for how long. There is confusion between the distinctions of when individuals are sick and/or experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 and when they have been exposed to a confirmed case of COVID-19. We highly encourage everyone to review the COVID-19 decision tree exclusion guidance, as it’s called, which lays out a number of scenarios and appropriate steps for children, students and staff.

DO NOT FORGET TO SCREEN YOUR STUDENT REMINDER: (Repeat)  Make sure to screen your child everyday, prior to coming to school!  Here is the link for Screener.  Your assistance is greatly appreciated!

Menu Change - November 16 & 17 (New)

November 16 - Monday's menu will be Taco Wedges, Mandarin oranges and corn.

November 17 - Tuesday will be Chicken Fries, Frozen Peaches, Mashed Potatoes and gravy.

Parent-Teacher Conferences - November 17th (New Change)

End of 1st Quarter Conferences are here and will be on Tuesday, November 17th from 3:45 - 7:30 PM.  Due to COVID, HBC Secondary will hold conferences via Zoom, phone call or an email.  This will help reduce the risk of community spread as we do everything we can to continue to keep HBC numbers down so our students can stay in school.  More information will be sent next week about how to set up a conference with your student(s) teacher.

Parents Night - HBC Volleyball - Tuesday, November 17th

Parents of HBC Volleyball Varsity Players will be honored and announced on Tuesday, November 17th at the HBC vs. Edgerton match-up.  Thank you parents for your support for our volleyball student-athletes and the HBC Volleyball Program.  See you on Tuesday!

Student Hat Day - Wednesday, November 18th

Students have earned over 800 G.R.A.D. certificates for the school year.  Therefore, students can wear their appropriate hats to school the entire day on Wednesday, November 18th.   Dust off the hats on Wednesday!

American Education Week 2020 - November 16 - 20 (New)

American Education Week presents everyone with an opportunity to celebrate public education and honor individuals who are making a difference in ensuring that every student receives a quality education.  Please make sure to thank and celebrate the following groups of people as we celebrate public education.  You can see our wonderful staff on the HBC website - directory (link).

Teachers - Write a note or email to an HBC teacher and thank them for their commitment to your student.  Teachers make a difference in our students lives and deserve gratitude from everyone.  Who was your favorite teacher?  Have you ever thanked them?

Paraprofessionals - Our paraprofessionals do it all!  They work with our students, they supervise, they clean and they love our students like their own.   Make sure you thank them with a note or an email.

Food Staff - Can you imagine school without a meal.  This is everyone’s favorite part of the day and our HBC food staff deserve a thank you.  They are the icing on the cake!

Bus Drivers - Getting our students to school safely is a priority for our bus drivers… and they do it with a smile.  Make sure to have your students thank them with a ‘thank you’, ‘good morning’ and a ‘have a great evening’.

Custodial Staff - Maintaining, disinfecting and cleaning our schools has been taken to a new level in 2020!  Dalton, Deb, Jason and Lisa make our school shine and do it with a smile.  Please thank them this week.

Administrative Assistants and Office Staff - The behind the scenes office staff do much more than anyone will ever know.  They are the captains of the ship and bring a positive attitude everyday.  Make sure to thank them for their service when you call the school.
