H-BC Secondary Families:

It’s already the midterm of Quarter 2!   This halfway point is a great time to check your student(s)’ grades on JMC.  Family engagement is an extremely important factor for student success.  If you need help adding the JMC app to your smartphone, logging onto JMC, remembering your password, please call HBC Secondary at 507-962-3240.  We would love to help you out and it works on any Smartphone or device.

As I mentioned last week, please remember to reach out to our staff and thank them for their hard work if you haven’t done so already during this holiday season.  We are still in school and this is largely due to our staff going above and beyond to clean, move their classroom to bigger areas if they have more than 20 students, provide masks breaks, remind students to put their mask above their nose, remind students to socially distance and repeat each day with a smile while TEACHING.   Personally, I feel extremely blessed and grateful that my son and daughter are still in school at HBC with their friends and teachers.  Please join me in showing thanks to our amazing staff by sending them a personal thank you message.

Here are some pictures from this past week.

G.R.A.D. student team helping cut out G.R.A.D. tickets.  Thank you for making our school GREAT!

Our 8th graders completed their CO2 Car unit with a race competition.   This hands-on unit allowed students to apply science, engineering, design, problem-solving and even artistry to their cars.   Here are some of students’ cars.  GREAT work 8th grade!

Congratulations to Abby Knobloch and Taryn Rauk!  Abby made the All-Conference Volleyball Team and Taryn was All-Conference Honorable Mention.

Congratulations to our All-District Football 2020 Team. (L to R) Chase Bosch, Zander Wysong, Tory Knobloch, Max Scholten, Tyson Bork, Calvin Erickson and Gavin Wysong. Bork and Wysong earned Offensive Players of the Year & Knobloch earned Lineman of the Year.  Thank you for an unforgettable season!

As a token of appreciation to our AMAZING staff, our staff was treated to Free LUNCH from Redders Food Truck.  Staff was able to order deep fried grilled cheese with ALL the fixings including pork or bacon.   The french fries and soup were also delicious.

Our 6th grade students won the FFA Food Drive Pizza contest.  Our 6th graders collected the most food and goods for those in need.   Karl is enjoying the pepperoni winnings.

DO NOT FORGET TO SCREEN YOUR STUDENT REMINDER: (Repeat)  Make sure to screen your child everyday, prior to coming to school!  Here is the link for Screener.  Your assistance is greatly appreciated!

Please make sure to send your student with a clean or new mask each day.   To encourage our students to wear their masks properly.  Our staff is going to be handing out G.R.A.D. tickets to our students who are wearing their mask correctly for the next month.   Teachers will be looking for students who…

  1. Keep their mask above their noses

  2. Having a mask that fits properly

  3. Does not have to be reminded for the entire block period

At the end of each week, the students’ tickets will be collected and a winner will be drawn for one of the following prizes

  1. A Patriot Blanket $35 Value

  2. A Donut Party for their class

  3. A Pizza Party for their class

  4. A $20 Visa Gift Card

Please send your student with a clean and properly fitting mask.

Advisory Update - Giving Back to Our School and Community (New)

Our secondary advisories have been busy in the month of December with learning and brainstorming ways they can show gratitude.   Giving back (volunteering) is a way to give back to the community you are part of and a great way to show gratitude.   Each advisory has been giving a challenge to think of ways you can give back to our communities we are part of and act upon it. Here are some of their ideas.

Ms. Anderson’s freshmen advisory made these Christmas center pieces for the Tuff Memorial Home.

The 6th grade advisory wrote encouraging notes on the lockers of EVERY student.

The sophomore advisory wrote thank you notes to our staff and hung them in the hallway.

Some students cleaned up all the trash around the HBC Secondary outdoor campus.
