I Love to Read Month
On Friday, February 20, the student council members visited the elementary school to celebrate I Love to Read Month. They had a wonderful time reading to the younger students and sharing their love of books.
When they returned, Karson Metzger shared, “The elementary school makes me so happy!” Sarah Prohl added that the elementary students kept asking for more books to be read.
It sounds like the visit was a great success!
Black History Month
Mrs. Moore’s Media 6 class designed posters with their own personal “I Have a Dream” speeches in honor of Black History Month and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

ACT 2026 Information for Juniors
During the upcoming months, all juniors will be preparing for the ACT by completing the OntoCollege ACT Prep Course during ELA, Science & Math classes.
Here are some IMPORTANT DATES for your planning purposes. Both Practice-ACT & ACT are offered at HBC Secondary.
Wednesday, February 11th- Juniors will take the Practice ACT Test & score their practice-test. (Scored in all areas & composite.)
Throughout March - Students will prepare for ACT using John Baylor’s “On to College” Training at school & at home.
Throughout March - Juniors should complete an interest survey on ACT.org and pick 4 colleges to send their scores (Ms. Sandbulte will remind students of this.)
Tuesday, April 21st - ACT TEST DAY at HBC 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM! (Please ARRIVE EARLY - 7:50 AM!)

Spring Assessments Coming Soon (New)
Spring Testing is an important time to check progress for our students. As we get closer to April, we will enter the Spring Assessment season. Below is our HBC Assessment Calendar. This will give you an idea when each assessment is scheduled for ACTs, MCAs and NWEAs.
Driver’s Education Starting Tuesday, February 24th (New)
The Driver’s Education Course will be starting on Tuesday, February 24th. The class will mostly be held after school for a duration of three weeks ending mid March. The class is a total of 30 hours of coursework. The cost of the course is $400.00 and will be due before you attend the first class (payable to HBC Schools). A letter was sent home for those who are signed-up on the interest form in the school office.
