H-BC Elementary Families:

SCHOOL LUNCH HERO DAY: Today, Friday, May 5 is recognized by the National School Nutrition Organization as LUNCH HERO DAY.   Our Food Service Staff are heroes!  Thank you to Donna Burgers, Anita Blank, Lisa Durst and Joan Johnson for making our meals and cafeteria’s so pleasant!

SCHOOL PRINCIPAL DAY:  We also celebrated Mr. Holthaus this week as May 1, was School Principal Day.  We are fortunate to have Mr. Holthaus leading the way at H-BC!  Students had fun dressing like Mr. Holthaus.

                                  Please join us in celebrating!  May 8-12 is Teacher Appreciation Week!  H-BC Elementary School has amazing teachers that we truly appreciate!  Please join in with me in celebrating our teachers!    Check out the details on page 19  in the May newsletter below for these daily suggestions:

Monday:  Bring your classroom teacher a snack
Tuesday:  Parents send a note of appreciation to your child’s teacher
Wednesday:  Bring your classroom teacher their favorite drink
Thursday:  Bring a note or treat to other teachers you meet with throughout the week
Friday:  Bring a note or card for your teacher.

EARLY DISMISSAL:  Wednesday, May 10 is an Early Dismissal.  12:45 Secondary School and 1 pm Elementary School

BETTER SPEECH AND HEARING:  May is National Better Speech and Hearing Month.  This observance provides an opportunity to raise awareness about hearing and speech problems, and to encourage people to think about their own speech and hearing and to seek help if needed.  We are thankful at H-BC for our Speech-Language Pathologist, Jil Vaughn.

4TH GRADE SCIENCE:  It’s an exciting time in Mr. Metzger's 4th grade as they are learning about the life cycle of a chicken and the incubation process of hatching eggs. 

   

BIKE RODEO:  The Luverne Optimist are again sponsoring the Bike Rodeo on Saturday, May 13, at 10:00 am at the Blue Mound Ice Arena Parking Lot in Luverne.  Kids of all ages are invited to attend with their bikes.   There will be prizes, including 2 bikes to be given away.   Atlas volunteers will be doing minor bike repairs.

5TH GRADE ENTREPRENEUR FAIR:  H-BC 5th grade students have been learning about developing a business model.  They have formed partnerships, created new products and learned about expenses and marketing. Students in grades K-4 will have the opportunity to see all the new products and hear the sales pitches at the Entrepreneur Fair held at the Elementary School on May 18th during recess time.  K-4 students may bring $5-$10 to spend at the Entrepreneur Fair.    Please do not exceed $10.

SUMMER SWIMMING LESSONS:  H-BC is pleased to again partner with Luverne Aquatics & Fitness for summer swimming lessons.   This year's lessons will be June 19-29 – 8:45-9:25.  Directions for swimming and transportation information were sent home.  

DARE GRADUATION: Congratulations to our 5th graders who graduated from the DARE Program on Tuesday.   (Drug Abuse Resistance Program)    Thank you to Rock County Deputy Stratton for teaching our students DARE!  Deputy Stratton and Sheriff Verbrugge presented the graduates with their certificates of completion.

MINNESOTA RAPTOR CENTER:  The Raptor Center from the University of Minnesota came for a Raptor presentation on M.  Max, the presenter, brought 4 Raptors, including a Hawk, Falcon, Owl & a Bald Eagle. It was a very informative & engaging presentation for all students & staff.

EARLY DISMISSAL/LAST DAY:  Friday, May 26 is an Early Dismissal and the last Student Day of the 2022-2023 School year.  12:45 Secondary School and 1 pm Elementary School
