We have had a variety of fundraisers and applied for grants and donations from local sources. The fundraising was started by a donation from the H-BC PTO. They made a donation of $10,000 to get the fundraising process kicked off. The PTO challenged local businesses and individuals to match the $10,000 donation.
Through the fundraising process we have had two matching donations of $10,000. The Exchange State Bank and the Boeve Family Foundation have made matching donations to the playground re-surfacing project.
The two major fundraisers that we did this year were also very successful. Our first fundraiser was in conduction with I Love to Read Month. Students at the elementary school participated in a Read-A-Thon in which they collected donations and competed to read the most minutes during the month. The Read-A-Thon brought in over $8,000 worth of donations. Two classes tied for the prize for bringing in the most donations. Mrs. Bush's first grade and Mr. VanWyhe's third grade both brought in over $60 per student to claim the fundraising prize. Mr. Metzger's fourth grade won reading prize by reading over an average of 250 minutes per student during the Read-A-Thon.
The other major fundraiser was a basketball fun night and silent auction fundraiser. The event was well attended and the community support from the event brought in over $10,000 for the project.
A full list of donors is listed below. The list is divided by the level of sponsorship by each organization. Thanks again for all of the support and involvement in this project!
Playground Re-surfacing Project
In December 2014 a group of staff members, parents, and community members began the process of fundraising to replace the surface on the playground at the elementary school. The new surface will provide a more accessible, cleaner, and safer play environment for all of the students at H-BC elementary.
Through the generous donations of sponsors and the overwhelming support of the H-BC community we have raised over $135,000 for the project. With the amount of funds that were raised we have been able to completely replace the playground with new equipment and surface. We have contracted with Northland Recreation to begin construction in July 2016. The playground will be ready to start the 2016 school year!
