Shared Reading/Guided Reading
Our topics this month for reading will be problem solving, The Gingerbread Man, and the holidays. We will focus on story elements( characters, setting, plot), problem/solution and sequencing. We will work on the reading strategies of using clues in the pictures and words of the story, decoding using the first letter of the word and thinking about what makes sense. We will work on rhyming words and focus on the -ig family.

WRITING/GUIDED WRITING
We will be working on the letters N, I, J, W, Q, and Y. We will continue to write in our ABC books during writing groups. We will practice writing these letters with rainbow writing. We will practice reading and writing the sight words with magnets, wikki sticks, and other fun tactile activities.

MATH
This month we will be talking about shapes. We will identify and sort basic plane shapes(circle, square, rectangle, etc.). We will identify symmetric figures and equal parts. We will solve problems using pictures.

SOCIAL STUDIES/SCIENCE/HEALTH
This month we will be problem solvers. We will talk about the clues we use in stories to help us become better readers. We will also be doing a unit on The Gingerbread Man. We will read many versions of this story and do some fun activities with it, including a special activity with our big buddies!! Last, but not least, we will be learning about the signts and sounds of the season and focus on the gift of giving.
