Dear Parents,

Second Grade has been very busy these last few days getting used to a new schedule. This a great class so we are off to a great start! I have enjoyed getting to know them.
During the year, I will be sending home book orders about once a month. You are not obligated to buy; however, the book clubs do offer many, wonderful literature selections at discount prices.
At other times, I will be sending home various book and magazine offers. Once again, the decision is yours. However, I would like the slips signed and returned in either case so our class will receive free books or other classroom gifts. The more slips returned, the more we will receive.
Our class will be having library on Wednesday this year so please remind your child to have their books back on that day.
We also have a special bulletin board for “Patriot of the Week”. Each week a different student will be featured. I will be sending a note home with the child the Friday before telling you what pictures they need to bring.
Each student will also have a special day for sharing. I sent a note home the other day about this. They do not have to share every week.
As I mentioned at Open House, we will have some weekly homework assignments. Spelling tests will be every Friday and we will have the same words for the entire month. The weekly vocab words will be sent home the first day of each week. The activity sheet for them is due on Friday of that week. They should do two items a night. I did forget to mention a Take Home Reader - that goes along with our story. This will be sent home on Friday and is due the following Monday. Please have your child read it to you, do the simple activity on the back, put your signature on it and send it back to school on Monday.
By working together, we can make this a very productive year. If you have any questions or concerns, please call me at school or stop in at school. I am working hard to see that your child gets off to a great start this year and am looking forward to getting to know them even better. I know we will have a successful year.
If you have not sent back all the office slips, the classroom discipline sheet and the student/parent survey sheet, please do so as soon as possible.
